Secco moved to Richmond's Fan neighborhood in 2016 and has established itself as a sanctuary for wine lovers. Owner and wine director Julia Battaglini opened Secco Wine Bar in 2010 in Carytown after a successful 15 year-long run of her wine and gourmet shop River City Cellars.
At Secco, we believe that drinking the good stuff is a natural right, so we proudly serve a wide array of small-production, terroir-driven Old World wines. We offer classic and house cocktails, imported and local craft beers, as well as Lamplighter coffee and Carytown Teas brewed to order.
All these flowing potables are anchored around a menu from executive chef Julie Heins, where seasonal ingredients, farmstead cheeses, traditional charcuterie and house-made everything are worked into a wide selection of pan-Mediterranean, wine-friendly dishes.
Our casual-chic vibe makes Secco equally ideal for a leisurely dinner or a glass and a quick bite anytime. Still, what really sets Secco apart is a staff, led by general manager Dave Martin, that is friendly, knowledgeable and dedicated to spreading the gospel of good eats.
Meet Chef Julie Heins
A Yankee carbetbagger who likes long nights in a hot kitchen, Chef Julie Heins has worked all over both coasts but made Richmond and Secco Wine Bar her home in 2015. Since graduating from the New England Culinary Institute in 2006, she has become a wine-loving culinary lifer and James Beard Women in Culinary Leadership Finalist. She has always been dedicated to sourcing and highlighting local, seasonal ingredients with menus that show love for both old and new techniques. Her days at Secco are spent practicing “resting b%$# face” and cooking food that'd make grandma weep with joy.
